About

Members participate in the events of their local branches from September to May, and representatives from these branches meet each quarter as part of the CAI's central council. Other members of the central council are representatives from Irish universities, both north and south, and other volunteers who take responsibility for CAI organs such as our journal, newsletter, and website.

Each year, particular events facilitate CAI members meeting their fellow Classics-lovers from other branches around the country. Above all, there is the very congenial CAI summer school, which is hosted by different branches in turn each summer. The Annual General Meeting takes place on the opening night of the summer school, in order to maximise the number of attendees. In addition, all members are invited to the annual Presidential Address, which is held in Dublin, and the biennial trip abroad is open to all members. To get a place on the latter, you have to be fast - demand usually exceeds the number of places on these wonderful odysseys.

As the CAI is a voluntary organisation, there are always openings for anyone who would like to play an active role in keeping Classics alive and well in Ireland. Helping out at branch level, initiating a new project or taking over an old one, sticking stamps on envelopes - everyone can get involved at any point!
